First Bloom Collection by Joni Relyea
Local Survivor Gives Back Through Her Art
Joni Relyea, a local artist and breast cancer survivor, has given generously of her art and her time to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Initially, Joni contacted the Komen National Race for the Cure wanting to donate umbrellas, silk screened with her “First Bloom Collection” to fellow survivors. She then offered to donate a “First Bloom” water color painting for the 2007 Survivor of the Year.
When she delivered the finished painting to the Race Office, she brought with her a smaller version as a gift for the Race Staff which hangs proudly in the reception area of the Race Office. Joni didn’t stop there; she has subsequently donated paintings and umbrellas to no less than a dozen Race for the Cure events around the country and she hasn’t stopped yet!
Thank you, Joni for your generosity in giving to Susan G. Komen for the Cure!
Breast Cancer 3-Day®
The Breast Cancer 3-Day® is a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight against breast cancer. Participants walk 60 miles in three days and help raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research and patient support programs. The Breast Cancer 3-Day benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. For more information visit www.the3day.org, or call 800-996-3DAY to walk the Breast Cancer 3-Day in a city near you.
Komen National Race Supports Local Community Fairs and More
Although the National Race is our largest event, we participate year round in local health and charity fairs and provide speakers for corporate, government, church, and community settings to address breast health and the mission of Komen for the Cure. Our survivor volunteers are our best asset at these events!
